Amarillo—Instruments of Mercy is the theme of the 80
th annual Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) Fall Convention, set for Friday, Oct. 21 and Saturday, Oct. 22 at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 South Washington.
This year’s Convention is being hosted by the Central Deanery.
The convention will begin Oct. 21 at 5:00pm, with Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek, with priests of the Diocese of Amarillo invited to concelebrate. At the conclusion of Mass, the nominees for the 2016 DCCW Woman of the Year will be announced.
Bishop Zurek is also the keynote speaker at the annual Banquet following the Mass. Also scheduled to speak is Father Hector J. Madrigal, pastor of St. Joseph’s Church, Amarillo. The banquet, being served by the Youth Group at St. Ann’s Church, Canyon, will conclude with the announcement of the 2016 DCCW Woman of the Year, followed by a banquet in her honor.
The convention resumes Oct. 22 with presentations from three speakers. Shelley Sample of St. Mary’s Cathedral will address the convention’s theme with a talk on Divine Mercy. Deacon Robert Smith, also of St. Mary’s Cathedral, is scheduled to address convention attendees with a discussion on Spirituality. The final address will be given by Kelly Frick of St. Thomas the Apostle Church, Amarillo, who will speak on Theology of the Body.
Following lunch, a business meeting will take place, with the election of new officers. The nominations committee will present the following nominees:
• President: Julie Neusch of Panhandle;
• Vice President: Monica Musick of Amarillo;
• Secretary: Mary Lou Schmucker of Nazareth;
• Treasurer: Jeanie Burney of Amarillo and Barbara Kline of Canyon;
• Auditor: Roberta Stanley of Amarillo; and
• Historian: Debbie Batenhorst of Umbarger.
All planning to attend the convention are asked to participate in a special collection of non-perishable items for Catholic Charities. Attendees are asked to bring peanut butter, tuna or any kind of protein items.
