250 Attend 6th-8th Grade Diocesan Youth Rally

An audience estimated at 250 attended the inaugural Youth Rally for sixth to eighth grade students June 22 at the Amarillo Civic Center.

This marked the first year that sixth to eighth grade students and high school students had separate Youth Rallies, said Oscar Guzman, Diocesan Youth Director.

The day included presentations by three keynote speakers, Scott Dougherty of Dallas, Paul Flores of the Diocese of Lubbock and Michael Kmetz of St. Mary’s Cathedral, Amarillo.

Bishop Patrick J. Zurek celebrated Mass with the group, with the day ending with Adoration.
The youth also gathered the following day for an afternoon at Splash Water Park.

“Our first youth rally for sixth to eighth grade students was an outstanding experience in faith, not just for the attendees, but for the adults who helped with the rally,” said Guzman. “I’ve heard very encouraging feedback from many people at the rally and I look forward to taking both the high school and the sixth to eighth grade Youth Rallies to a higher level in 2014.”
Dates for the High School and Sixth to Eighth Grade Youth Rallies have been set for 2014, according to Guzman.

High School youths will meet Friday, April 25 and Saturday, April 26, with Sixth to Eighth Grade youths meeting Saturday, June 28. Both events will take place once again at the Amarillo Civic Center.
