The 78th annual Fall Convention of the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW) will take place Friday, Oct. 24 and Saturday, Oct. 25 at St. Vincent de Paul Church, 810 West 23rd.
This year?s gathering is hosted by the East Deaney. The theme of this year?s convention is Catholic Women United in Truth.
Activities will begin Oct. 24 with a 5:00pm Mass, celebrated by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek, with priests of the Diocese of Amarillo concelebrating. Bishop Zurek will also speak during the evening banquet, followed by Jane Carter, the Leadership Commission Chair for the National Council of Catholic Women (NCCW). The evening will conclude with the announcement of the 2014 DCCW Woman of the Year by Monsignor Rex Nicholl, followed by a reception.
A business meeting will be the first order of business on Oct. 25, followed by the installation of officers, who will serve a two-year term of office. DCCW President Jeannie Friddell appointed a nominations committee following the summer board meeting, who selected a slate of officers. Names submitted for election to office include:
? President Jeannie Friddell;
? Vice President Julie Neusch;
? Secretary Monica Musick;
? Treasurer Sharon Stephens;
? Auditor Roberta Stanley;
? Historian Debbie Batenhorst; and,
? Parliamentarian Teresa Sarzynski.
The installation of officers will be followed by a leadership training program. Also invited as a guest to the DCCW convention is Pat Conover, past Director of the Province of San Antonio.
The Good Samaritan Food Bank of Pampa will be given the Offertory collection from the Mass.
Each parish organization is asked to provide three quality items for the annual raffle. Please send a list of items to Judy Kay Tomlinson, 15401 Bertrand Road, Amarillo, 79108 as soon as possible, so information for ticket sales can be put together for the convention.
