Amarillo—Assignments for nine priests have been announced by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek.
Father Roberto R. Rodriguez is assigned to Hospital Ministry, with residency at Blessed Sacrament Church, Amarillo.
Father Guadalupe Mayorga and
Father César Gómez have swapped assignments. Father Mayorga is the new Pastor at St. Joseph’s Church, Stratford and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Cactus, while Father Gómez is the new Pastor at Immaculate Conception Church, Perryton and St. Peter’s Church, Booker. Father Gómez is also the new Dean for the North Deanery.
Father Lawrence John, JCL, is the new Pastor at St. Anthony of Padua Church, Dalhart and St. Mary’s Church, Texline.
Monsignor Michael Colwell, JCL, is appointed Rector at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Amarillo.
These appointments take effect on Thursday, Feb. 1.
Two appointments will take effect on Thursday, Feb. 8.
Father José Ricardo “Richard” Zanetti, JCL, and
Father Jim Schmitmeyer will trade assignments. Father Zanetti is the new Pastor at St. Hyacinth Church, Amarillo, while Father Schmitmeyer is the new Pastor at St. John the Evangelist Church, Borger and St. Ann’s Church, Stinnett.
Two additional appointments have also been announced.
Father Vijayabhaskar “Bhaskar” Rao Adusupalli is the new Administrator at Holy Family Church, Nazareth. The appointment is effective Ash Wednesday, Feb. 14.
Father Hrudaya Raju Kondamudi will take over as Administrator at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Amarillo, effective Wednesday, March 21. Father Kondamudi will also continue to work in Prison Ministry.
New to the Diocese of Amarillo, Father Rodriguez, 38, was ordained to the priesthood on Aug. 13, 2005. A native of Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico, he has had numerous assignments in Nuevo Leon, the last as Parochial Vicar at Mary Mother of the Church since 2016.
Father Mayorga has served as Pastor in Perryton and Booker since Sept. 1, 2011. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 25, 2002 at St. Laurence Cathedral (now St. Laurence Church), Amarillo, and has also served at parishes in Pampa, Tulia, Kress, Dimmitt and Hart.
Father Gomez, 53, was ordained to the priesthood on March 19, 1998 at Bógota, Colómbia. Prior to arriving in the Diocese of Amarillo, he served at parishes in Queens and Delaware. Father Gómez was Parochial Vicar at St. Mary’s Cathedral from Sept. 2015 to Oct. 2016.
Father John, 43, has been involved in hospital ministry since 2013. He was appointed diocesan Chancellor on Nov. 4, 2013 and collegial judge for the Ecclesiastical Tribunal on June 8, 2017. Father John received his Licentiate in Canon Law from St. Paul University in Ottawa.
Monsignor Colwell, 56, was ordained to the priesthood on May 28, 1994. He has served in Dumas, Cactus, Stratford, Borger, Stinnett, Dalhart, Texline and Amarillo. Monsignor Colwell was named a Prelate of Honor with the title of Monsignor by Pope Benedict XVI on Feb. 5, 2008.
Father Zanetti, who turns 50 on Feb. 1, has served in Borger and Stinnett since Sept. 2012. He was appointed diocesan Judical Vicar on Sept. 1, 2015. Ordained to the priesthood on July 5, 2003, Father Zanetti received his Licentiate in Canon Law from Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome in 2012.
Father Schmitmeyer has been at St. Hyacinth Church since Sept. 1, 2011. Other assignments in the Diocese of Amarillo include parishes in Childress, Memphis and Wheeler. Father Schmitmeyer was formerly in the Archdiocese of Cincinnati, where he was assigned to St. George Church in Ripley, Ohio.
Ordained to the priesthood on April 7, 2007, Father Adusupalli, 38, arrived in the Diocese of Amarillo in 2012 and was appointed Parochial Administrator at St. Francis of Assisi Church, Amarillo, on Nov. 1, 2016. He has been active in Prison Ministry and in Hospital Ministry.
Father Kondamudi, 37, has been Parochial Vicar at St. Vincent de Paul Church, Pampa and Chaplain at the Rufe Jordan Unit/Baten Transfer Facility Units of the Texas Department of Criminal Justice in Pampa since last fall. He was ordained to the priesthood on March 26, 2008.
