Amarillo—Assignments for four have been announced by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek.
Father Marco Antonio Gonzalez has been named Spiritual Director of the Cursillos de Cristiandad, effective May 11.
Father Grant Spinhirne has been appointed Parochial Vicar at St. Mary’s Cathedral, Amarillo, effective June 3.
Father Lawrence John, JCL, is appointed judge for the Ecclesiastical Tribunal of the Diocese of Amarillo, effective June 8.
Diocesan seminarian Victor Hugo Andrade, M.Div., is appointed instructor of the Ecclesiastical Tribunal, effective June 8.
A native of Mexico, Father Gonzalez, 38, was born on April 11, 1980. He was ordained to the priesthood on Aug. 26, 2006. He began his service in the Diocese of Amarillo on Aug. 1, 2008, when he was appointed Parochial Vicar of Sts. Peter and Paul Church, Dumas and Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Cactus. He has also served at Church of the Holy Spirit, Tulia and St. Paul the Apostle Church, Kress. He was appointed Parochial Administrator at Holy Angels Church and Sacred Heart Church on July 19, 2016.
Father Spinhirne, who turns 30 on July 12, is a native of Vega. He completed studies this spring at St. Mary’s Seminary in Houston and was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek on June 3 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. A graduate of West Texas A&M University, Father Spinhirne has been assigned to St. Mary’s Cathedral, where he will serve as Parochial Vicar.
Father John, 43, is a native of K.K. Pudur, Tamilnadu, India. He was ordained to the priesthood on April 5, 2002 at St. Joseph’s Church in K.K. Pudur. After a period of parish work in India, Father John spent the last two-and-a-half years at St. Paul University in Ottawa, where he received a Licentiate in Canon Law. He has served as diocesan Chancellor since Nov. 4, 2013.
Seminarian Andrade, 28, is a native of Huandacareo, Michoacan, Mexico. He studied at the University of St. Mary of the Lake-Mundelein Seminary and Catholic Theological Union in Chicago. Last August, Andrade officially completed the necessary requirements to obtain and graduate with a Masters of Divinity.
Father Jose Ricardo “Richard” Zanetti, JCL, Judical Vicar for the Diocese of Amarillo said Father John is being added to the College of Judges for the Tribunal, joining Monsignor Michael Colwell, JCL, and Father Francisco Perez, JCL.
Mr. Andrade will be preparing all the cases to speed up the process, assisting Carol Sanford in her responsibilities as Executive Assistant of the diocesan Tribunal, according to Father Zanetti.
