Amarillo—Longtime educator Kim Lackey has been named principal at St. Mary’s Cathedral School, according to Father Anthony C. “Tony” Neusch, rector, and Christine Wanjura, superintendent of schools for the Diocese of Amarillo.
Lackey has served as interim principal at St. Mary’s Cathedral School since January.
“Kim brings almost 35 years of experience in teaching, coaching and administration,” said Father Neusch. “She has built three schools from the ground up. Her wealth of experience, knowledge, her humility and integrity will serve our parish and school.
“We are grateful to God for Kim’s acceptance of the position and we ask that you pray for her and her ministry of leadership and service, and for our school and parish that He blesses all who enters our buildings.”
“Kim’s experience and passion as an educator were immediately evident when she stepped in as interim principal last semester,” said Wanjura. “Her positive energy and passion for the education and formation of her students is contagious. St. Mary’s is in good hands under her leadership!”
“Seeing children growing in their Faith and sharing their love for God with one another truly takes my breath away,” said Lackey. “St. Mary’s Cathedral School has been a beacon of Faith for generations, built on prayers and hopes that our children would be blessed and excel in their education while shining with the light of Christ. Each day, I witness this vision realized in the faces of our students. Our teachers are profoundly dedicated to fostering both academic excellence and spiritual growth. I couldn’t imagine being part of a more inspiring and fulfilling community.”
In a May 5 teacher profile in The West Texas Catholic, Lackey was asked why Catholic Schools are important…
“Catholic Schools allow students to learn beyond the traditional education process,” she said. “By incorporating worldly perspectives and experiences, Catholic Schools provide a spiritual foundation that promotes personal excellence in all students.”
