Peoria, Ill.—Deacon Matthew Hoelscher, a native of Amarillo, will be ordained to the priesthood Saturday, May 24 by Bishop Daniel R. Jenky, CSC during a Mass at St. Mary’s Cathedral here.
In a story in the May 11 issue of The Catholic Post, the newspaper of the Diocese of Peoria, Deacon Hoelscher, the son of Tim and Kim Hoelscher, said he was amazed by how God uses people in our lives to help us see His will. He traced his own vocation story to a suggestion made to him during a retreat between his junior and senior years of high school in Amarillo.
“One of our young adult chaperones told me that he thought I would make a good priest,” recalled Deacon Hoelscher. “From that moment on I could not seem to shake the thought that God could ask me to do that.”
The newly-ordained Father Hoelscher will celebrate his first Mass on Sunday, May 25 at Epiphany Church in Normal, Ill.
