Amarillo—The public is invited to attend one of the two final Open Houses for the new Diocesan Pastoral Center.
The final two Open Houses are set for Saturday, March 4 from 10:30am to 2:30pm and Sunday, March 5 from 2:00pm to 6:00pm.
“I want to personally invite everyone to come and share this time with us,” said Deacon Phil Whitson, Diocesan Chief Financial Officer. “We have worked hard to create a space that all Texas Panhandle Catholics will be proud to call their Pastoral Center. It’s a building of simple elegance, respectful of the hard earned donations that made its creation possible.”
The new building is the fourth chancery building in the nearly 91-year-history of the Diocese of Amarillo. According to diocesan archives, the first chancery building was located at Sacred Heart Cathedral at 817 South Taylor from 1929 to 1937. Diocesan operations were relocated to 1100 South Washington, where it remained until 1953.
For nearly 64 years, a two-story building at 1800 North Spring served as the Diocesan Pastoral Center.
“I cannot say enough how thankful we are for the generosity of the people of the Diocese of Amarillo for making this dream a reality,” added Deacon Whitson.
