Parishes throughout the Diocese of Amarillo are encouraged to honor their priests on Priesthood Sunday, set for Oct. 26.
?The purposes of Priesthood Sunday are to honor the priesthood and to get people talking about the declining number of priests,? said Father Scott L. Raef, rector of St. Mary?s Cathedral and Vocations Director for the Diocese of Amarillo. ?We hope to inspire more young men to consider a possible life as a priest.?
Priesthood Sunday, which is coordinated and sponsored by the USA Council of Serra International, is a day to reflect upon and affirm the role of the priesthood in the life of the Catholic Church as a central one, said Father Raef.
?Priesthood Sunday offers an opportunity for priests and their parishioners to build a stronger working relationship,? he said. ?Together, they can dialogue to take an honest look at the challenges of the future and how they can collaborate to meet those challenges as a united force.?
