Amarillo—For the second consecutive year, Knights of Columbus Councils in the Diocese of Amarillo are partnering with Catholic Radio of the High Plains in a fundraiser to support the needs and programs of this lay apostolate.
“Catholic Radio of the High Plains is an outreach of St. Valentine Catholic Radio, Holy Family Church in Nazareth and St. John Nepomucene Church in Hart,” said Dale Artho of St. Valentine Catholic Radio. “Our mission is to build, maintain and promote the Catholic Faith through the medium of radio.”
As a result of last year’s fundraiser, two new Low Power FM (LPFM) radio stations were built in Castro County, KSJH, at 102.3 FM in Hart and KHFN, at 105.5 FM in Nazareth.
The 2014 fundraiser also helped to reduce the 2010 upgrade debt for St. Valentine Catholic Radio, according to Artho.
“Our goal for this year’s fundraiser is to further reduce the debt that remains from the 2010 upgrade,” he said. “A portion of the proceeds from this year’s fundraiser will also go toward paying off the debt that occurred when we moved last month from downtown Amarillo to our new location at 4037 West 50
th Avenue.”
A ticket for the fundraiser can be purchased with a $25 donation or six tickets can be obtained for a $100 donation from any Knights of Columbus member in the Diocese of Amarillo, according to Ron Railsback of Knights of Columbus Council #7840 at St. Ann’s Church, Canyon.
Top prize is a $2,000 Amarillo National Bank Gift Card. Second prize is a $1,000 Amarillo National Bank Gift Card, while third prize is a $500 Amarillo National Bank Gift Card. The drawing will take place Thursday, June 18 during a special edition of The West Texas Catholic: The Audio Version, on St. Valentine Catholic Radio, 1360AM, KDJW.
“We encourage everyone who listens to Catholic Radio in the Diocese of Amarillo to purchase a ticket for our fundraiser,” Artho said. “We thank the Knights of Columbus for their continued support of our ministry.”
