Amarillo—Preparations continue as The West Texas Catholic transitions to a digital publication after the first of the year, according to Jim Mitchell, Chief Financial Officer for the Diocese of Amarillo.
“The cost of producing the newspaper quadrupled in one month earlier this year and has increased since then,” he said. “The West Texas Catholic is an important means of communication within the diocese, and we need to work to preserve this important ministry.
“Many parishioners are accustomed to reading a newspaper in a digital format, but others are not. There will be a limited number of paper copies of The West Texas Catholic, beginning with the Sunday, Jan. 15 issue, available in your parish, for those who are not comfortable with the digital version. We hope this change allows this important communication tool to continue and meet the needs of our parishioners.”
Mitchell added that newspapers will not be mailed out to individuals, except for some very specific reasons, such as shut-ins. If a person requests a paper copy be mailed to their house, they will be required to pay the $25 subscription fee directly to the diocese, not the parish.
For additional information or to add shut-ins who need the newspaper, please contact the diocesan Development Office at 806-383-2243, ext. 119.
