Money-less Youth Ministry – Ministry Budgeting 101
Growing your budget from a “ZERO” balance, creating a budget plan, practical and creative insights on how to struggle less in a money-less ministry. Every single event/activity cost money. Even the activities we do at the church, while they may not cost our students money, take a toll on the youth budget (if you have one) or personal finances.
In this economy the Wal-Mart smiley face is not the only thing rolling back prices. More than likely your budget has been rolled back and slashed making you more of a fundraiser than youth minister. Youth groups who spend their time "fundraising'" are building a program around money and not the Master (you can't serve both God and money!). “You cannot serve both God and money” (Matthew 6:24).
The three basic areas where monies are needed programming, training and activities. The first two, i believe that the church should already have it in the youth ministry budget. The last one would be activities which I have found that some churches tend to think that the youth must "work" for the money for a trip- this may be true in some cases- but not always fair or right. The church should want kids to go on trip such as to a outised the parish retreat or DCYC for the spiritual growth. Just my thoughts!
