Amarillo—A sea of purple shirts filled the Amarillo Civic Center and St. Thomas the Apostle Church April 13-15 for the annual Diocesan Youth Rally.
Attendance for this year’s rally was 925, according to Oscar Guzman, Diocesan Youth Director.
“We had representatives from 25 of our diocesan parishes at this year’s rally,” he said. “We were blessed to have outstanding keynote speakers such as Tuan Vu, Christopher Stefanick and Judy McDonald and a great concert to wrap up our celebration with Steve Angrisano at St. Thomas the Apostle Church.”
Other highlights from the rally included Mass celebrated by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek, Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament, led by Father Daniel Dreher and a procession downtown to the former Planned Parenthood location, where the youth prayed the Divine Mercy Chaplet.
“I was very proud of our youth as they marched to 15th and Taylor in memory of the unborn,” said Guzman. “I was honored to see them walk with the knowledge of the blessings that their parents chose life and the willingness for them to choose life themselves.
“As our Youth Rally came to an end, I was touched to receive a call from a non-Catholic brother, who wanted to let me know how proud he was of our youth when he spoke to them at the mall prior to the Steve Angrisano concert. He thanked us for the billboards and shared that we should continue sharing the victory of Christ with all youth.”
