Amarillo—Appointments affecting three priests in the Diocese of Amarillo have been announced by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek.
Father Jose E. Gómez, Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Amarillo, has been reappointed as Pastor for an additional six years.
Father Gregory Bunyan, Parochial Administrator of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Spearman, and Cristo Redentor Church, Gruver, has been named Pastor of the two parishes and reappointed for an additional six years.
Father Jose Ricardo Zanetti, JCL, Judicial Vicar of the Diocese of Amarillo, has been appointed Pastor of St. John the Evangelist Church, Borger, and St. Ann’s Church, Stinnett.
Father Gómez, 59, was appointed Pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, Amarillo, on Sept 1, 2009. He was ordained to the priesthood on May 20, 1995 by then-Bishop Leroy T. Matthiesen in Mexico and has served at parishes in Borger, Stinnett, Clarendon, Memphis, Perryton, Silverton, Spearman and Gruver. Father Gomez has also served in hospital ministry at the VA Hospital, Baptist-St. Anthony’s Health System and Northwest Texas Hospital, all in Amarillo.
A native of Nicaragua, Father Bunyan, 51, was appointed Parochial Administrator at Sacred Heart of Jesus, Spearman and Cristo Redentor Church, Gruver, on Sept. 1, 2009. He was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Bluefields, Nicaragua, on Dec. 5, 1996. Incardinated into the Diocese of Amarillo on March 30, 2012, Father Bunyan has also served at parishes in Childress and Memphis since his arrival in the Texas Panhandle in 2007.
Appointed Judicial Vicar on Sept. 1, Father Zanetti, 47, was ordained to the priesthood for the Diocese of Ciudad Guayana, Venezuela, on July 5, 2003. He served in parishes in the Diocese of Ciudad Guayana and was director of seminarians from 2007 to 2008.
Father Zanetti is a graduate of Oblate School of Theology in San Antonio and in 2012 received a Licentiate in Canon Law from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.
