Figures released by Holy Cross Catholic Academy show that the graduating Class of 2013 received $516,830 in scholarships, grants and tuition waivers.
School officials say $477,000 of the $516,830 were in the form of scholarships, with $17,790 in grants and $22,040 in tuition waivers.
Offered scholarships were:
• Valedictorian Sarah Witling, who was offered the Southwestern University Mood Scholar Award, an Academic Excellence Scholarship from the University of Houston, the Founder’s Award from Creighton University, a President’s Merit Award from the University of San Francisco and from Amarillo College, a National Honor Society Scholarship and a Regents Achievement Scholarship;
• Salutatorian Maria Elena “Nena” Fierro, who was offered the University of Texas at Dallas National Hispanic Recognition Program Scholarship, a President’s Excellence Scholarship from St. Edward’s University, an Honors Scholarship from West Texas A&M University, a scholarship from Texas A&M University, two scholarships from the Amarillo College Foundation—the National Honor Society Scholarship and the Regents Achievement Scholarship and a Holy Cross Catholic Academy Booster Club Scholarship;
• Alondra Alvarez, who was awarded the Cyrene Reyes Memorial Scholarship;
• Tina Dang, who was offered a Scholarship by the Better Business Bureau, an Amarillo Area Foundation Scholarship, the Senator Teel Bivins Scholarship, a Dean’s Acheivement Scholarship from St. Edward’s University and two scholarships from the Amarillo College Foundation—the National Honor Society Scholarship and the Regents Achievement Scholarship;
• Joshua Fierro, who was offered a Holy Cross Catholic Academy Booster Club Scholarship;
• Caryn Hoover, who was offered a Federal Pell Grant, an Amarillo College Counselor Appreciation Scholarship and an Amarillo College Foundation National Honor Society Scholarship;
• Daniel Huseman, who was offered a Texas A&M Regents Scholarship, a Federal Pell Grant, a TEXAS Grant, a Texas Public Education Grant, an Amarillo College Federation National Honor Society Scholarship and a four-year National Naval Reserve Officers Training Corps Scholarship;
• Titus Medley, who was offered an Amarillo College Foundation National Honor Society Scholarship;
• Kristin Pevehouse, who was offered an Amarillo College Foundation National Honor Society Scholarship and a Holy Cross Vocal Scholarship;
• Jena Rizcallah, who was offered an Amarillo College Foundation National Honor Society Scholarship, an Eastern New Mexico University Freshman Academic Scholarship, a Texas 135-Mile Tuition Waiver and a Ruter Scholar Award from Southwestern University;
• Peter Stefanski, who was offered the West Texas A&M University Amarillo Area Foundation Scholarship Association of Information Technology Professionals Scholarship, an Amarillo College Foundation National Honor Society Scholarship and the Superintendent’s Scholarship; and,
• Fonyou Tatah, who was offered the Amarillo College Foundation Counselor Recommended Scholarship.
