Where Are You Studying? Assumption Seminary, San Antonio
The unique thing about where I’m studying is... How surprisingly international it is. I am friends with seminarians from all over the world – Nigeria, Kenya, the Philippines, Columbia, El Salvador… At one point, we had seminarians from six of the seven continents but our Irishman was ordained last year so now only five continents are represented.
When did you receive your call to the priesthood? That’s always a hard question to answer. I think God began calling me at a fairly young age but definitely by the time I was in college. So why did I take so long to answer the call? I think God knew I was not ready and He wanted me to bring to the priesthood the experience that I could only have received through working and living in the world those extra 20 years.
The most interesting thing about the seminary life is... How amazing it is to see God working in my life to form me into a priest. On any given day it is hard to see the changes but when I looked back over the last 3 ½ years and I begin to recognize some of them, I cannot help but be grateful for the wonderful things God is doing in my life.
Hobbies: Does reading theology text books count? That’s all I seem to do these days…
Favorite Movie(s): The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, Indiana Jones, Star Wars.
Favorite Book(s): This changes with every book I read but some of them are The Pillars of the Earth, The Alchemist, and any mystery by Tony Hillerman.
Favorite Television Show(s): Mythbusters
Favorite Sports Team(s): My answer has to be the Spurs otherwise I might be run out of San Antonio.
Role Models: Definitely my parents and my grandparents. So much of who I am today I owe to them.
Target Date for Ordination: 2014
