Nazareth—Catholic Women United in Truth: Sowers of Hope is the theme of the 79
th annual Fall Convention of the Amarillo Diocesan Council of Catholic Women (DCCW). This year’s convention, hosted by the South Deanery, is scheduled Friday, Oct. 23 and Saturday, Oct. 24 at Holy Family Church, 210 St. Joseph St. in Nazareth.

The convention will begin Oct. 23 with a 5:00pm Mass, celebrated by Bishop Patrick J. Zurek, with priests of the Diocese of Amarillo concelebrating. Bishop Zurek will also speak during the evening banquet, which will also include a talk by Joyce Brown-Thomas, San Antonio Province Director, who will speak on the makeup of the Province. The evening will conclude with the announcement of the 2015 DCCW Woman of the Year by DCCW Spiritual Director Monsignor Rex Nicholl, pastor of St. Martin de Porres Church, Amarillo, followed by a reception.
A business meeting will be the first order of business on Oct. 24, followed by a presentation by Tracy Rogers, who will speak on Human Trafficking. After lunch, the Disciples of the Lord Jesus Christ will give a talk on the convention theme, followed by a presentation by Nanette Nguyen, secretary for the Diocesan Respect Life office, who will tell her story on her conversion back to Christ. Presentations during the day will be made in both English and Spanish, according to Friddell.
Those planning to stay overnight in Nazareth on Oct. 23 are asked to contact Gerber as soon as possible at 945-2297.
The Offertory collection from the Oct. 23 Mass will be presented to the Nurturing Center of Lubbock. The DCCW will also be collecting protein products during the convention. Those contributing to this need are asked to bring non-perishable items, according to Friddell.
Each parish organization is asked to provide three quality items for the annual raffle. Please send a list of items to Judy Kay Tomlinson, 15401 Bertrand Road, Amarillo, 79108 as soon as possible, so information for ticket sales can be released to all parishes.
